{"id":51548,"date":"2017-08-10T09:25:47","date_gmt":"2017-08-10T07:25:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=51548"},"modified":"2017-08-10T09:25:51","modified_gmt":"2017-08-10T07:25:51","slug":"task-force-constituted-to-oversee-unima-delinking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/08\/10\/task-force-constituted-to-oversee-unima-delinking\/","title":{"rendered":"Task force constituted to oversee Unima delinking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>C<\/strong>ouncil of the University of Malawi says an independent task force is being constituted to oversee the delinking process of its colleges.<\/p>\n<p>According to a press release signed by Chairperson of Unima Council, James Maida, Unima is exercising its powers as provided for in Section 10 (j) of the Unima Act.<\/p>\n<p>The council has, therefore, resolved that the College of Medicine, Kamuzu College of Nursing and The Polytechnic be delinked from Unima.<\/p>\n<p>The release states that the Council\u2019s resolution has graciously been endorsed by the Chancellor of Unima, President Peter Mutharika.<\/p>\n<p>It further states that until the process has been finalised, Unima will continue as one entity.<\/p>\n<p>Plans to unbundle the Unima have been met with resistance from a number of stakeholders after the Public Service Reforms Commission raised the issue.<\/p>\n<p>Some officials within Unima argued that the arrangement would be costly as each of the four colleges would need its own vice chancellor and council.<\/p>\n<p>However, proponents of the unbundling argued that the university had overgrown and it was becoming difficult for authorities to effectively manage its affairs from the University office.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Council of the University of Malawi says an independent task force is being constituted to oversee the delinking process of its colleges.
