{"id":51509,"date":"2017-08-10T07:31:03","date_gmt":"2017-08-10T05:31:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=51509"},"modified":"2017-08-10T07:31:03","modified_gmt":"2017-08-10T05:31:03","slug":"tay-grin-gets-afrima-nomination","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/08\/10\/tay-grin-gets-afrima-nomination\/","title":{"rendered":"Tay Grin gets Afrima nomination"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tay Grin has been nominated in the category of Best Male Artiste in Southern Africa in this year\u2019s All Africa Music Awards (Afrima) for the song \u2018Tola\u2019 which features Tanzanian artist Vanessa Mdee.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2018Tola\u2019 music video has been enjoying massive airplay on DStv\u2019s Trace Africa channel.<\/p>\n<p>The Best Male Artiste in Southern Africa category also has veteran South African trumpeter Hugh Masekela with his track \u2018Shango\u2019 and AKA also from South Africa with his song \u2018The World Is Yours.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The others on the list are Nasty C from South Africa, Emtee from South Africa, Jah Prayzah from Zimbabwe and Nduduzo Makhathini from South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first time for Tay Grin to get an Afrima nomination.<\/p>\n<p>The artist has soared this year and in May he grabbed three awards in the inaugural Nyasa Music Awards namely Best Male Artist, Best Video and Best Live Act.<\/p>\n<p>Tay Grin who is currently in Europe on a world tour which has seen him performing in Iceland, United States of America, South Africa, Ireland and England said yesterday that it was a great honour to be nominated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t recall that I have ever been nominated in the Afrima Awards. This is the first time for me. It\u2019s a great honour to be considered one of the best act in Southern Africa,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the nomination was not for him alone but for the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is good news for Malawi and the creative industry as a whole as we continue to conquer the world stage. And as the voting lines open people need to vote so that I bring this award home,\u201d Tay Grin said.<\/p>\n<p>He said he was looking forward to more nominations but also awards.<\/p>\n<p>Tay Grin\u2019s award comes barely a month after the country\u2019s South Africa-based singer Zani Chiumia better known as Zani Challe was nominated in the African Muzik Magazine Awards (Afrimmas) whose event will be held in October.<\/p>\n<p>Zani Challe has been nominated in the category of Best Newcomer.<\/p>\n<p>The singer well known for her song \u2018Single Tonight\u2019 which she featured Nigerian star Patoranking last year was nominated in the Afrima but she failed to get an award.<\/p>\n<p>The country also received a nomination in the Afrima 2014 through Lawi, creator of Amaona Kuchedwa track but he failed to grab the award.<\/p>\n<p>Tay Grin\u00a0who returns home on August 17 will be hoping to grab the award this time and make history.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tay Grin has been nominated in the category of Best Male Artiste in Southern Africa in this year\u2019s All Africa Music Awards (Afrima) for the song \u2018Tola\u2019 which features Tanzanian artist Vanessa Mdee.
