{"id":51504,"date":"2017-08-10T07:26:47","date_gmt":"2017-08-10T05:26:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=51504"},"modified":"2017-08-10T07:26:47","modified_gmt":"2017-08-10T05:26:47","slug":"16-years-waiting-for-his-book","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/08\/10\/16-years-waiting-for-his-book\/","title":{"rendered":"16 years waiting for his book"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Writer Ketson Kulunguja from Masambanjati in Thyolo last Friday told a gathering at Museum of Malawi in Blantyre during training for budding playwrights that he has waited for 16 years to have his book <em>When Debts Pile Up <\/em>published.<\/p>\n<p>He said he has passion for writing and that he started the trade longtime ago but because he comes from a very remote area his chances of publishing his works have been limited.<\/p>\n<p>Kulunguja said urban writers or rather artists have stories to tell the world but they are sidelined in different programmes let alone being given support.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have talent in the rural areas but we lack resources and do not have the opportunities. I have waited for my book to be published for 16 years,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Kulunguja said he happy that finally his book <em>When Debts Pile Up <\/em>has been published by Montfort Media.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI started writing this book in 2000 but has been published in 2017 so its 16 years waiting for it to be published,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Kulunguja said he was excited to have been invited to participate in a budding play wrights workshop organised by Chancellor College Travelling Theatre with funding from Hivos through Cultural Fund Malawi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a wall between the rural and urban but now it seems the wall is now falling,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Kulunguja said many stories which have won awards worldwide are those set in the village and yet rural artists are sidelined.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is why I am asking this question to say why are we sidelined? Don\u2019t rural masses have a story to tell the nation?
