[This is so] considering that Beta TV constructively gave us the go-ahead to open up the beaming of the games to other broadcasters,” he said.

The Sulom treasurer was, however, unclear if the decision means that Beta had thrown in the towel.

Asked on how far Sulom had gone with plans to consult legal advisors on breach of the contract by Beta, Banda said: “the matter is currently filed at the Commercial Court.”

Nyasa Big Bullets Interim General Secretary, Albert Chigoga, applauded the decision, but urged Sulom to first clear the mist surrounding Beta’s rights.

“It is a good idea [for Sulom to find an alternative], because clubs would like to benefit from the Super League games. But Sulom has to speed up all the legal processes to put this whole mess to a rest.

“In addition, if it means terminating the contract, it will be good to follow all the necessary procedures in a bid to find Beta’s replacement.
