{"id":51451,"date":"2017-08-09T11:08:52","date_gmt":"2017-08-09T09:08:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=51451"},"modified":"2017-08-09T11:08:52","modified_gmt":"2017-08-09T09:08:52","slug":"government-mum-on-turf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/08\/09\/government-mum-on-turf\/","title":{"rendered":"Government mum on turf"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The government has intensified its efforts to replace Kamuzu Stadium\u2019s worn out artificial turf after paying U$200,000 (about K146,600,000) to a Zimbabwean contractor for the installation of a new one.<\/p>\n<p>Sources confided in <em>The Daily Times <\/em>that government had made a half payment for the turf to ensure that the stadium re-opens shortly.<\/p>\n<p>However, Director of Sports, Jameson Ndalama, could neither confirm nor deny the development.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are some developments, but I cannot pre-empt anything because we need to go through some stages,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>A source hinted that the Zimbabwean contractor might arrive at the end of this month to install the turf and replace the current one which was condemned recently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo far half payment has been made as there is a race against time,\u201d the source said.<\/p>\n<p>Blantyre giants, Nyasa Big Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers, who use the stadium as their home, have been forced to play either at Balaka Stadium or Kalulu Stadium in Nchalo, thereby draining their coffers.<\/p>\n<p>Stadium Manager, Ambilike Mwaungulu, Tuesday declined to comment on the installation of the new synthetic turf.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The government has intensified its efforts to replace Kamuzu Stadium\u2019s worn out artificial turf after paying U$200,000 (about K146,600,000) to a Zimbabwean contractor for the installation of a new one.
