Police have conceded they are yet to bring to court 22 Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) cadets suspected to have beaten up and injured two police officers in May in Ntcheu, saying the law enforcers are still looking at the case.<\/p>\n
Police spokesperson, James Kadadzera, said in an interview recently the police are still gathering evidence on the issue.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe cannot take the suspects to court because we have not concluded our investigations. We cannot say when the investigations would be concluded,\u201d said Kadadzera.<\/p>\n
Kadadzera\u2019s comments come amid fears that police are scared to bring the indiscipline and rampaging suspects to court because they are connected to the ruling DPP and they are powerful and influential in their own right in the party.<\/p>\n
The DPP cadets came in spotlight once again recently when they harassed some journalists at the High Court in Blantyre where they blocked some journalists from taking pictures of former Agriculture minister George Chaponda.<\/p>\n
But Kadadzera refused to be drawn to comment on suspicions from some quarters of society that the 22 DPP cadets will never be brought to court because they are being shielded by their masters in government.<\/p>\n
DPP Secretary General, Greselder Jeffrey, could not be reached for her comment but DPP Regional Governor for the South Charles Mchacha is on record to have disassociated his party from young boys who harassed journalists in Blantyre, saying the party did not send its supporters to the High Court.<\/p>\n
Kadadzera said in May that the 22 DPP cadets, who were travelling in a government vehicle on their way to Lilongwe for President Peter Mutharika\u2019s State-of-the-Nation Address, were cautioned for acts of intended to cause grievous harm and \u201cthey will appear in court to answer the charge soon\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
