Book Publishers Association of Malawi (Bpam) President Alfred Msadala said Thursday that the preparations for the Malawi Book Festival to be held next month were on track.<\/p>\n
Bpam is hosting the festival with funding from Hivos through the Cultural Fund Malawi.<\/p>\n
The Malawi Book Festival will take place at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe from August 10 to August 12.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are on track with the preparations and we urge Malawians of all ages to come and sample Malawian book market. We are providing for all ages and classes of our society,\u201d Msadala said.<\/p>\n
He also revealed that National Library Service which is their principal partner will be mounting children\u2019s corner so that those who bring children are accommodated.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo adults need not worry when they bring their children because they will also be treated to their own game whilst they enjoy the festival,\u201d Msadala said.<\/p>\n
He said that being their first festival, they would want to do it better.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is all free and we will be starting in the morning from 9am through to 6pm. This is happening for the first time in Lilongwe and as Bpam we are committed,\u201d said Msadala a renowned author.<\/p>\n
Msadala said the festival was special in that they would want to promote and sell books among others.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is a platform where we will also have seminars and workshops which are aimed at improving knowledge and skills. We also want as publishers to meet existing customers but also catch up on the latest market trends and developments,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Msadala said the festival was being held in Lilongwe because it is central.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a national event and we opted for Lilongwe because it is centrally located. As I said earlier we have many workshops which will among others look at the Copyright Act which is currently on sensitisation phase but also reforms which have been made,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Msadala said the festival will run under the theme Book at home, a life partner for all. <\/em><\/p>\n \u201cThrough the theme we want to emphasize that a book is very important. Many have associated it with school but a book should start from home.
