Silver Strikers coach Stain Chirwa has bemoaned that suspensions and injuries contributed to his team\u2019s downfall against Civo United in a Lilongwe derby played on Sunday.<\/p>\n
The Bankers lost 0-2 against a disciplined Civo at Silver Stadium but Chirwa believes they paid the price of having a lean squad following injuries and suspensions.<\/p>\n
Before the start of the season, Silver announced that they would have a squad of not more than 25 players as a cost cutting measure.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe need to have a big squad to cope with injuries and suspensions,\u201d said Chirwa in post-match interview.<\/p>\n
In their game against Civo, Silver were without key striker Green Harawa, midfielder Ndaziona Chatsalira, defender Mike Robert due to suspensions while striker Tizgobere Kumwenda missed the game due to injury.<\/p>\n
They also lost key defender Lameck Kachimanga, who is in Nigeria trying his luck with Dolphins FC and midfielder Young Chimodzi Junior to Indian club Kenkre FC.<\/p>\n
Blessings Tembo is still out with an injury while Ghanaian striker Samuel Siaw is still ineligible to play.<\/p>\n
Peter Pindani is also among the registered players but he is busy with work commitments.<\/p>\n
The loss against Civo was their fifth defeat in 12 games this season.<\/p>\n
They are on position four on the log table with 19 points.<\/p>\n
However, Chirwa said their title challenge was not over.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe league is a marathon and we are still one of the serious contenders,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Speaking after his first victory of the season, Civo coach Oscar Kaunda, said the win against rivals Silver would be the turning point of their season.<\/p>\n
