But we have been challenged with this show,” Kalimbe said.

He said the show, titled One Stage, Two Choirs and One Artist, reminded them of their past exploits when they used to perform for hours on stage.

“This was a good platform and gave us enough time to perform more songs. We had to rehearse more and infact we planned to perform 20 songs each with The Great Angels but this is an eye opener,” he said.

Although the show did not attract a bigger audience, the output from the three artists was good and Kalimbe said they would be working with The Great Angels to organise another show.

Ndirande Anglican Voices which performed soon after King James Phiri, dropped a number of songs from their albums which include Ndasayina, Tiyeni Tonse, Ndasambam’manja, Zimandikwanira and Mulungu Amatikondera.

“We have come a long way and have been on the ground for 17 years and we thank people for the support. We have a new album Mukamenye Nkhondo Yabwino but we had to hold it to give a chance to our colleagues, Ndirande Anglican Melodies, but we will release it in October,” he said.

The Great Angels Choir’s music director Ephraim Zonda described the show as massive and that it challenged them to give people the best.

“People want these shows, where you have a few artists but offer more. Chrichi Gardens is also a good venue which needs to be utilised. We have learnt a lot through this platform that we don’t need to underrate ourselves as artists,” Zonda said.

He also said that the show gave them an opportunity to reach out to Blantyre fans as they gear to launch a website on September 29 whose guest artist will be South Africa’s veteran musician Sipho Makhabane.

The Great Angels, which closed the chapter, also did their best, offering more songs from their four albums namely Mundifungatire, Gwireni Dzanja, Ndiyende Bwanji and Mwasankha Ine.

Chrichi Multipurpose Gardens proprietor Wales Chakukuma said he was satisfied with the show.

“People loved it. We want to promote local artists to be offering quality live acts and drop more songs. Great Angels, Ndirande Anglican Voices and King James Phiri all did well,” Chakukuma said.

He said they now have their own equipment and that they have set up their own band.

Veteran musician Overton Chimombo also said it was a well organised show that offered more time to the artists and that he was happy with the performance of the band he had set up.

The Great Angels Choir from Lilongwe and Ndirande Anglican Voices as well as King James Phiri on Sunday shared the stage at Chrichi Multipurpose Gardens in Blantyre.
