{"id":50756,"date":"2017-07-24T09:26:51","date_gmt":"2017-07-24T07:26:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=50756"},"modified":"2017-07-24T09:26:52","modified_gmt":"2017-07-24T07:26:52","slug":"malawian-invents-gendaball-sport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/07\/24\/malawian-invents-gendaball-sport\/","title":{"rendered":"Malawian invents Gendaball sport"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Malawi and the world will soon start playing Gendaball, a sport which Ethiopia-based Malawian Francis Mwalabu has invented.<\/p>\n<p>Gendaball derives its name from genda, meaning throw in vernacular, and a ball.<\/p>\n<p>Mwalabu told <em>The Daily Times <\/em>on Friday that he invented the sport in 2013 in Ethiopia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI decided to come up with a game that would be identified as a Malawian game. I am now trying to launch it in the country as well as in other countries so that people get to know what it is and embrace it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is such a simple game, where one wins through points accumulated as he plays. It is a simple game and it does not involve much energy or injuries to the players,\u201d Mwalabu, a civil servant in the diplomatic service, said.<\/p>\n<p>The game involves throwing balls into holes that are on a board, which has points marked against each hole.<\/p>\n<p>The bigger the hole, the less the points and the players have to target the ball into the hole.<\/p>\n<p>The points are then multiplied at the end of the game where the one with more points is declared the winner.<\/p>\n<p>He said the sport will be launched in the country in September and in Ethiopia a month later.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have already discussed with the Ministry of Sports to incorporate the game and everything is done. Meanwhile, I am embarking on a tour in some areas of the country to conduct trials as a way of making the game known to the people. So far the response has been good.
