The Malawi Institution of Engineers (MIE) has drafted an Engineering Bill that will regulate operations of the sector, said to be a major contributor to the gross domestic product.<\/p>\n
Plans to present it to the National Assembly during the next sitting for debate and approval are at an advanced stage.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a cocktail party held in Blantyre for chief executive officers from various companies, MIE Vice president, Wilson Chirwa, said the bill once passed into law will help the institution to have a legal say.<\/p>\n
He said with the bill, MIE is also expected to be involved in anything to do with engineering whether seminars, projects and tendering of the same.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to be disseminating information of achievements of the profession and likely rewards it attracts to the industry,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Chirwa noted that MIE is poised to contribute a lot to maximising the benefits of huge projects in Malawi and across the borders.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe need your support at the CEO level so that our vision which is \u201cto be a world class institution for developing and promoting innovative, regulatory and operational guidelines to enhance the art, science and practice of engineering profession in Malawi\u201d is a reality.<\/p>\n
During the party\u2014 which was sponsored by Einstein Construction and Nitel Malawi\u2014it was said that the institution is poised to organise an annual general meeting in August.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
