{"id":50282,"date":"2017-07-14T10:32:53","date_gmt":"2017-07-14T08:32:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=50282"},"modified":"2017-07-14T10:32:55","modified_gmt":"2017-07-14T08:32:55","slug":"airtel-powers-2017-braille-cup-with-k3-million","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/07\/14\/airtel-powers-2017-braille-cup-with-k3-million\/","title":{"rendered":"Airtel powers 2017 Braille Cup with K3 million"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Airtel Malawi says the annual Braille Cup competition for primary schools, which started Thursday, ends today at Kaliyeka Model Primary School in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n<p>This follows its presentation of K3 million on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Presenting a dummy cheque on behalf of Airtel Malawi, Isabel Kachinjika, said they were proud to support the visually impaired students who participate in the competition every year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur adopted school, Salima Primary, is an integrated school that has a resource centre for visually impaired students which we continuously support with Braille paper, styluses and cubes among other stationery items,\u201d Kachinjika said.<\/p>\n<p>She said Airtel Malawi has been sponsoring the annual Braille Cup competition for the past three years.<\/p>\n<p>In his remarks, Deputy Director of Special Needs Education in the Ministry of Education, David Njaidi, expressed happiness at the gesture by Airtel Malawi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the first year that the competition, which is in its fourth year, is being held nationally,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Last year\u2019s winner of the Braille Cup was Nsiyaludzu Primary School. The school won cash prizes and other items like Braille paper, universal Braille kits, radios, and gift packs.<\/p>\n<p>The Braille Cup is a national academic competition for students with visual impairment in Malawi which started in 2014 under the Usaid\u2019s Early Grade Reading Activity (Egra).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Airtel Malawi says the annual Braille Cup competition for primary schools, which started Thursday, ends today at Kaliyeka Model Primary School in Lilongwe.
