AFTER a six-game losing streak, Blantyre United believe they have quality players to help them avoid TNM Super League relegation this season.<\/p>\n
Blantyre stunned Super League defending champions, Kamuzu Barracks, with a 2-1 win at MDC Ground on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Goals from Ibrahim Sadik and Rafiq Juma were enough to stun the soldiers, who scored their consolation through Kelvin Hanganda.<\/p>\n
United Technical Director, Lawson Nakoma, said they were not panicking after a slow start on their return to the top-flight league.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur start has not been the best but we are not panicking. We let some games slip through our fingers and we have also been victims of poor [refereeing] decisions and it cost us positive results,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Nakoma said their win over KB was not a fluke.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was unfortunate that Kamuzu Barracks managed to pull one back, otherwise they were supposed to lose by a bigger margin. That victory gives us the confidence that we can turn the corner and be among top teams in the league,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Currently, Blantyre are hunting for a Caf B licenced coach and, in the meantime, Shadreck Mpesi and Safarao Pompi are drilling the team.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Nakoma admitted that the team was struggling financially.<\/p>\n
\u201cCurrently, we are knocking on different doors in a quest to secure sponsorship or a donation to ease our financial burden. The players appreciate that this is a self-sponsored side.
