{"id":50161,"date":"2017-07-12T12:07:14","date_gmt":"2017-07-12T10:07:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=50161"},"modified":"2017-07-12T12:07:15","modified_gmt":"2017-07-12T10:07:15","slug":"teachers-union-worried-with-invigilators-late-payment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/07\/12\/teachers-union-worried-with-invigilators-late-payment\/","title":{"rendered":"Teacher&#8217;s Union worried with invigilators\u2019 late payment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Teachers\u2019 Union of Malawi (Tum) has expressed worry over failure by the Malawi National Examinations Board (Maneb) to pay K1.4 billion to teachers who invigilated this year\u2019s Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations.<\/p>\n<p>Tum Secretary General, Charles Kumchenga, said it is sad that almost every year Maneb takes time to pay teachers\u2019 invigilation allowances.<\/p>\n<p>Kumchenga said, since Maneb abolished Junior Certificate of Education Examinations (JCE), it could have used the money which could have been used for JCE examinations to cater for the MSCE task.<\/p>\n<p>Before the examinations began, Maneb requested K1.2 billion funding from Treasury to pay the invigilators.<\/p>\n<p>Kumchenga said Maneb has told Tum that the examinations\u2019 body is waiting for funding from government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is sad that, up to now, no single invigilator has been paid the allowances. Last year, it was a similar case. So, we think there is negligence,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview, Treasury spokesperson, Alfred Kutengule, only said \u201cthere have been discussions between Treasury and Maneb on the matter\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Asked when they are likely to pay the invigilators, Maneb spokesperson, Simeon Maganga, only said the examinations body is doing everything in its capacity to pay them in time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Teachers\u2019 Union of Malawi (Tum) has expressed worry over failure by the Malawi National Examinations Board (Maneb) to pay K1.4 billion to teachers who invigilated this year\u2019s Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations.
