MALAWI national football team striker Gabadinho Mhango has failed to win the MTN8 Last Man Standing Award for the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL).<\/p>\n
The PSL awards gala took place on Monday night at Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, where Mhango\u2019s BidVest Wits team mate, Daine Klate, won the award.<\/p>\n
In an interview yesterday, the former Nyasa Big Bullets prolific striker said he was disappointed to miss out on the award.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have to accept the results and move on. Of course, I was very confident of winning the award after scoring some vital goals in the MTN Top8 but I need to move on and focus on next season,\u201d Mhango said.<\/p>\n
Mhango was the only Malawian nominated for this year\u2019s PSL awards.<\/p>\n
Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Joseph Kamwendo commended Mhango for earning the nomination, adding that it was difficult for Malawians to be nominated for such awards.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was watching the PSL awards presentation and when I heard about Gabadinho competing for the MTN Last Man Standing Award, I was very happy. But I knew that it would be hard for him to claim the award. Let us encourage him to work hard so that he can make it next year,\u201d Kamwendo said.<\/p>\n
During the gala, Lebohang Manyama of Cape Town City walked away with awards for PSL best footballer, Players\u2019 Player of the Season and the Golden Boot.<\/p>\n
The best footballer award is voted for by 16 coaches whereas players vote for Players\u2019 Player of the Year accolade.<\/p>\n
PSL champions Wits also enjoyed a successful night with the club\u2019s Coach, Gavin Hunt, voted the best in South Africa.<\/p>\n
Wits\u2019 Darren Keet also won goalkeeper of the season award whereas Captain, Thulani Hlatshwayo, received the best defender recognition, with Phakamani Mahlambi named best up-and-coming player.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
