{"id":49973,"date":"2017-07-10T09:56:29","date_gmt":"2017-07-10T07:56:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=49973"},"modified":"2017-07-10T09:56:31","modified_gmt":"2017-07-10T07:56:31","slug":"lilongwe-mayor-endorses-standard-bank-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/07\/10\/lilongwe-mayor-endorses-standard-bank-race\/","title":{"rendered":"Lilongwe Mayor endorses Standard Bank race"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lilongwe City Mayor, Desmomd Bikoko, has officially endorsed the Standard Bank Be More Lilongwe Race scheduled for July 30.<\/p>\n<p>The race has been split into three key legs of 5 km, 10 km and 21 km for men and women and children above 10 years.<\/p>\n<p>Bikoko welcomed the marathon, saying it would bring back \u2018life\u2019 into the Capital City.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a great initiative and we are in full support of the race. As a city, we welcome the event with open arms as it will bring life back into the city.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe feel very encouraged that it is happening in our city and at a time when we are changing in the way we operate,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Bikoko said the event would also create a platform for city council officials to interact with residents on developing a master plan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have agreed to support Standard Bank in this race. As such, we will be providing some logistical support in terms of security.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will put up our table at the event to help us interact with members of the general public on our master plan. This is a great platform for us to reach out to our residents,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Standard Bank Head of Marketing, Thoko Unyolo, said preparations were at an advanced stage, with many people registering to participate in the race.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe registration process is ongoing and I would like to urge our customers and everyone else to come forward.
