Unfortunately there had to be one winner, me,” he said. BFB looks back to the early days of his production when he used to have a house Hifi to make music for artists such as Blasto and Third Eye, as his biggest motivation.

“I remember when I only had a dynamic microphone, a Pentium three computer and a 3cd changer Hifi as output. I had worked with Kapadoia, Killah Wormz, Homegrown African way back using that setup before I could manage to record for well established artists,” he said. This motivated him to work hard and upgrade his equipment.

“I had a dream and I’m very happy to have come this far, getting local and international recognition,” said BFB who has also worked with HHP from South Africa.

The ‘Lokolo ili Swag’ hit maker is a huge admirer of Dr. DRE internationally and Taps Bandawe and late Chuma Soko on the local scene. BFB said he balances well between being a producer and a singer and also find time to do scripts and graphic designs.

“The balance is natural. When you are a producer and artist, making music is very simple and you don’t waste much time cause you know certain things that people struggle with to make music,” he said. As a producer, BFB has made hits such as Pasopa by HHP, Better by Gwamba, Angozo by Piksy, Local ili Swag by BFB and Good Girl by Blasto.

The three tips he shared on how to be a better producer were passion, hard work and being a fast learner. “Music is changing every day, if you are a slow learner, you will eventually be left out in the long circumstances run,” BFB said.

The other ingredients of production, according to him would be, a good and broad knowledge of music in general, good speakers, a good computer, a good studio microphone, a good audio interface and DAWs (softwares).

“You need to be very conversant with all types of music because we make different type of music for different people,” said the young talented producer who claims to spend over 12 hours to make one song. “I give every song a minimum of twelve hours; four hours to make the beat, for hours for recording and mixing and the last four hours for mastering.”

BFB said the process is not always continuous as he sometimes refreshes his mind by listening to different types of music just to develop new ideas. Being a producer has its own challenges too. “One needs to be very patient with their clients because not every artist can understand what the producer wants and the other way round,” he said.

He finished off by hinting that he is currently finalising a project by Dj Cool, himself and a top Zambian artist which will be out very soon. He did not want to reveal the name of the Zambian artist. As a singer BFB has just released visuals for ‘Real Recognise Real’ which features Martse and Malinga and was premiered on Times Television inside #FusionLive #PremierMonday Show.

NEARLY two months after emerging as the best producer at the Nyasa Music Awards, Jeremy Matewere, popularly known as BFB has finally spoken about how he has been working so hard to achieve his success.
