Nurturing innovative science ideas, especially among the youth, could result in significant socio-economic development, according to mHub founder, Rachael Sibande.<\/p>\n
Sibande said this at the weekend during an expo held at mHub offices in Lilongwe to mark the end of the Africa Science Week.<\/p>\n
Sibande said almost every sector is relying on science designs for development hence the need to promote innovative ideas among children and allow them to embrace science at a tender age.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are a lot of scientific designs, simple example is the light bulb, a scientific innovation that is currently serving the world, and so, we need to encourage our young people to be innovators, to create and design scientific innovations that will solve social problems of the world and not just Malawi,\u201d Sibande said.<\/p>\n
She further said observing the Science Week was part of bringing children in the limelight of scientific innovations as some have already started to be recognised through their little contributions to science.<\/p>\n
\u201c13 African countries, including Malawi, were celebrating the Science Week and, it was a collaboration of Malawi\u2019s scientists, academicians, researchers and science enthusiasts. We had a creative workshop for children and another for women and girls in hardware programming and at the end, an exhibition of some of the innovations made by the children,\u201d Sibande added.<\/p>\n
Principal Scientist in the Ministry of Education Science and Technology, Patrick Mphadzula, commended mHub for the work it is doing.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe continue to see state of the art innovations from our young stars which is a very promising development. During the expo, I was amazed to learn about scientific solutions that are targeting the health sector, the energy sector, solutions about waste management and many more and we need more initiatives like the ones being developed by mHub,\u201d Mphadzula said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
