{"id":49541,"date":"2017-07-03T09:11:36","date_gmt":"2017-07-03T07:11:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=49541"},"modified":"2017-07-03T09:11:37","modified_gmt":"2017-07-03T07:11:37","slug":"tributes-pour-in-for-noel-mkandawire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/07\/03\/tributes-pour-in-for-noel-mkandawire\/","title":{"rendered":"Tributes pour in for Noel Mkandawire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tributes are pouring in for former Civo United and Escom United international forward, Noel Mkandawire.<\/p>\n<p>The former striker died in Mzuzu on Saturday aged 38 after succumbing to a lengthy liver related illness.<\/p>\n<p>Civil Sporting Club General Secretary, Thom Makiwa, said the club, which emerged from the ashes of relegated Civo United, is shocked by Mkandawire\u2019s passing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a team, we are really saddened. He was a player who dedicated most of his time to the club and we will live to remember him,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter his playing career ended, he also helped the team as a member of the coaching panel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Northern Region Football Association General Secretary, Masiya Nyasulu, whose association drummed up financial support for Mkandawire when he was hospitalised, described his death as a loss to the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was an important player. He was talented and he was a good example to up-and-coming players. He was disciplined and friendly,\u201d Nyasulu added.<\/p>\n<p>Late Mkandawire was born on December 25, 1978 at Euthini in Mzimba District.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, burial arrangements are not yet known.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tributes are pouring in for former Civo United and Escom United international forward, Noel Mkandawire.
