After five months of paper work and other preparatory activities, former vice president Khumbo Kachali has finally formed a political party.<\/p>\n
The new party, Freedom Party, joins a list of other political parties that are in the country\u2019s political parties\u2019 registration book.<\/p>\n
Kachali confirmed in an interview that the group that is behind the formation of the party received a certificate about four days ago.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am happy to tell Malawians that, after five months of preparing, we have formed that party,\u201d Kachali said.<\/p>\n
He, however, would not mention other members of the party.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will tell you everything when we launch the Freedom Party,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Controversial Mzimba Hora MP, Christopher Mzomera Ngwira, was one of the people who reportedly encouraged Kachali to form a party but Kachali dismissed such reports.<\/p>\n
Ngwira, who got fired from People\u2019s Party(PP) for leading the campaign against acting president Uladi Mussa and for supporting Kachali, rejoined the ruling Democratic Progressive Party(DPP) a few days ago.<\/p>\n
\u201cI never mentioned Ngwira in any of my statements about forming this party,\u201d Kachali said.<\/p>\n
When he made the announcement of party formation some weeks ago, Kachali cited the firing of some of his \u2018friends\u2019 in the PP as one of the reasons for his decision.<\/p>\n
The former vice president said one of the values of the new party is to ensure unity and solidarity among Malawians.<\/p>\n
Kachali, who is a Member of Parliament for Mzimba South West, served as vice president during the two-year reign of Joyce Banda but later the two parted ways after Banda failed to pick Kachali as her running mate in the 2014 presidential election.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
