The Lilongwe International Fashion Week held at Golden Peacock on Saturday suffered a setback as only a few people turned up.<\/p>\n
One of the designers \u2013 Nyalisa Wear from Blantyre , said on Monday that it was disappointing that people did not turn up for the event.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis being an international platform, we expected that the turnout to be good but it was not. As local designers, we were embarrassed and we just don\u2019t know what picture designers from other countries took,\u201d Wyson Bowman of Nyalisa Wear said.<\/p>\n
He said that this was a good platform for them to showcase their designs to the people.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe designers showed up and the models were great. The artists performed but as I have already said, the turnout was just not good. The only plus we can take is that there was networking among us and it was good in terms of sharing ideas,\u201d Bowman said.<\/p>\n
He said organisers invested a lot in the event.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was not satisfactory to the organisers, however I am hoping that they can recover from this setback and do it better next year,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
One of the founders for the fashion week, Major Carter, confirmed that the event did go as they anticipated, especially on the part of the audience.<\/p>\n
\u201cFew people showed up like 20 but aside this, everything went as planned. We had both local and international designers and everything was intact,\u201d Carter said.<\/p>\n
He also indicated that they did not start in time because there were no people.<\/p>\n
The Lilongwe International Fashion Week has been in existence for two years now and according to Carter as organisers they were learning lessons every year.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don\u2019t know why the audience didn\u2019t show up because we have been promoting the event for some time. But anyway this is how things go sometimes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Carter said that some international designers did not make it to the event. Some the international designers who made it was Adwalah from Ghana and Zimbabwe\u2019s Robin Chaidva.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
