{"id":49214,"date":"2017-06-27T09:28:39","date_gmt":"2017-06-27T07:28:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=49214"},"modified":"2017-06-27T09:28:42","modified_gmt":"2017-06-27T07:28:42","slug":"machuluka-enjoys-space-with-tonga-songs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/06\/27\/machuluka-enjoys-space-with-tonga-songs\/","title":{"rendered":"Machuluka enjoys space with Tonga songs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Machuluka is a name that might not be strange, especially to those who have sampled the Tonga track \u2018Zowala Za Mwana Wangu\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Zowala Za Mwana Wangu\u2019 is a song which continues to enjoy airplay, especially in weddings and engagements.<\/p>\n<p>Machuluka, real name Andrew Mphande, said on Monday that he is working on an album titled <em>Mungavwa Waka Mbiri <\/em>to come out August.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have been working very hard and I am happy with the response I have received from people. Some of them have encouraged me to continue using my Tonga language since music knows no boundaries,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>So far, the artist has managed to record eight songs with the latest \u2018Awakoliyapu\u2019, which has also received an overwhelming response.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know some people have been asking me as to why I have concentrated much on doing Tonga songs but this is also part of promoting my language but again I have seen that I do better songs in my own language. There are artists like Diamond, who do their songs in Swahili, so it\u2019s the same with me,\u201d Machuluka said.<\/p>\n<p>Of the eight songs he has recorded, only one is in English titled \u2018Homesick\u2019, while the rest are in Tonga.<\/p>\n<p>The other songs are \u2018Mwakambanga Boza\u2019, \u2018Wandiphwamuwa\u2019, \u2018M\u2019bali Wangu\u2019, \u2018Ndituza\u2019, and \u2018Vwalako\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Machuluka, who is currently studying business information technology at the National College of Information Technology \u2013 Lilongwe Campus, describes himself as a composer, writer and producer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cActually, all these songs I have produced on my own at Machuluka Records. I believe in myself and I am not afraid to take chances but also embrace new things. And for your information, I am also a painter and sketch artist,\u201d Machuluka said.<\/p>\n<p>His music career dates back to the time he was a child when with friends they used to make instruments from tins, pieces of wire and wood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI developed a strong interest in playing instruments after I took my Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations.
