TNM Super League defending champions Kamuzu Barracks (KB) and bottom-placed Chitipa United registered much-needed victories Sunday against Moyale and Azam Tigers, respectively.<\/p>\n
Chitipa beat Azam Tigers 3-2 to claim their first league win of the season after seven games.<\/p>\n
Alick Phiri was well-positioned to tap home from a rebound in the 23rd minute after Emmanuel Muyira\u2019s strike was saved by Tigers\u2019 goalkeeper William Thole.<\/p>\n
Wacheta Mwenifumbo doubled the home side\u2019s advantage in the 40th minute with a 40-metre-drive to give them a 2-0 lead at half time.<\/p>\n
Tigers returned from the break with new ideas that paid dividends two minutes into the second period as Stein Pendame\u2019s free-header from a corner-kick gave the visitors renewed hope.<\/p>\n
With five minutes before the final whistle, Chitipa substitute Christopher Mtambo secured all the points for his side with a superb strike to send the home supporters into jubilation.<\/p>\n
Pendame claimed his brace in stoppage time from the spot-kick to end the match 3-2.<\/p>\n
In Lilongwe, defending champions KB earned a hard fought 1-0 victory over Moyale Barracks at Civo Stadium.<\/p>\n
Forward Kelvin Hanganda was the hero of the day when he netted the only goal of the match to secure maximum points.<\/p>\n
Following the win, KB have moved to position 11 with eight points from six games whereas struggling Nyasa Big Bullets were held to a 1-1 draw by Premier Bet Wizards in Nchalo.<\/p>\n
Davie Banda scored for Bullets whereas Mischeck Bottoman equalized for Wizards.<\/p>\n
KB Coach, Billy Phambala, said the victory was important.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a tough match but we managed to collect maximum points,\u201d Phambala said.<\/p>\n
His Moyale counterpart, Charles Kamanga, said the loss was painful.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is still a long way to go and we will return to winning ways,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
