Local boxer Ruth Chisale became the first Malawian female pugilist to fight and win in Europe following her unanimous decision triumph over Ornella Domini in Geneva, Switzerland, on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Often over looked and undermined, Chisale proved her prowess when she maintained her perfect winning record and also dented Domini\u2019s perfect run.<\/p>\n
Following her six-round non-title first victory, Chisale has improved her record to seven straight wins whereas Domini has suffered the first loss in 11 fights having won 10.<\/p>\n
In a WhatsApp message, Chisale thanked her camp, Ngumi Boxing Stable, for arranging the international fight.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was not easy. The atmosphere was very intimidating and it was the first time for me to fight outside Malawi. I was encouraged by many people and some were even praying for me. This is a dedication to them,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Ngumi Boxing Stable Managing Director, Steve \u2018Mawenzi\u2019 Msiska, said the result will open a window of opportunity to other boxers.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs Malawians, we should feel proud that our boxer has won. It was not easy for her but she defied the odds. This will open up many opportunities for other boxers in Malawi,\u201d Msiska said, adding that he is set to travel to Russia with light heavyweight boxer Mussa Ajibu Tuesday.<\/p>\n
He has also arranged two fights for Chimwemwe Chiotcha and Limbani Masamba to fight in another European country, Kosovo.<\/p>\n
