All I want is to go international and be known but I need to work hard. I believe I have talent,” Chipembere said.

The only female participant Monica Maia, who also auditioned last week, failed to make it through.

Female artist Rina said it was fun watching the auditions.

“It was something new for me, but it was fun. I believe with time things change we just need to keep working hard,” she said.

The female artist has been silent but she indicated that she is working on different projects aimed at empowering women.

Jere said it was interesting to see more people patronise the auditions and that they were satisfied with the two who have made it through.

“It’s quite encouraging with the way things have gone and we are satisfied with those picked because they are original. As M-Theatres we want to give an opportunity to comedians to create an industry,” he said.

He said the three stand-up comedians will perform on July 1 where people will pay.

“With the international comedy day we felt we should have something. All we can say is there is more coming and people should just watch the space,” he said.

Jere said there was need to support local acts and that as M-Theatres they want to expose stand-up comedians.

The country is yet to rise as far as stand-up comedy is concerned but others have done well among them Daliso Chaponda, who came third in Britain’s Got Talent 2017

Mad Martin, Chipembere through

Mad Martin, real name Martin Chiotcha and Arthur Chipembere on Saturday made it through during the stand-up comedy auditions held at M-Theatres in Blantyre.
