{"id":4905,"date":"2015-06-26T09:03:35","date_gmt":"2015-06-26T09:03:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=4905"},"modified":"2015-06-26T09:03:35","modified_gmt":"2015-06-26T09:03:35","slug":"haxi-momba-revives-the-jews-band","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2015\/06\/26\/haxi-momba-revives-the-jews-band\/","title":{"rendered":"Haxi Momba revives The Jews Band"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lilongwe-based reggae musician Haxi Momba has resurrected his band known at The Jews which took a long break due to lack of equipment.<\/p>\n<p>The creator of the hit \u2018Kufa Safelana,\u2019 said yesterday that The Jews Band has not been active because of lack of equipment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has been difficult to hold live performances because of lack of equipment but now we are back. I have resurrected the band and I am looking forward to nothing but the best,\u201d said the dreadlocked artist.<\/p>\n<p>Momba also said will start holding the shows with the band starting today in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are targeting performing in all the districts in the country. It has been difficult in the past as I said because of lack of equipment but now we have it having been bailed out by Nyamithambo Arts Palace,\u201d said the soft-spoken reggae musician.<\/p>\n<p>Momba has shown potential that he can go far with his reggae music and last year in November he launched his <em>Chibvumbulutso <\/em>7 in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo far so good, the album is doing well on the market and actually this album has even brought into the picture my previous albums which are on demand. So I am working on producing more CDs for my new album and previous albums which will be available even during my live concerts,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>His <em>Chibvumbulutso 7 <\/em>album has songs such as \u2018Wolonjezedwa,\u2019 and \u2018Wasinthanitsa ndi nsima,\u2019 which are currently enjoying airplay.<\/p>\n<p>Momba said The Jews Band has members Joel Tandani on bass, Francis Kamanga on backing vocals, Mphatso Zigwewa on keyboard and Mwayi Chitsize on drums.<\/p>\n<p>Nyamithambo Arts Palace proprietor Eric Trinta said he decided to offer equipment to Haxi Momba and The Jews Band to help them propel their music.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe lack of equipment kept the band down and so after being approached I thought I should assist,\u201d said Trinta.<\/p>\n<p>He said Nyamithambo Arts Palace is hosting the trainings for the group as well as providing equipment.<\/p>\n<p>He this is part of their role in the Malawian arts industry.<\/p>\n<p>Momba said that the biggest challenge facing many artists in the country is the lack of equipment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is difficult for an artist to put together equipment, many would like to invest in it but they do not have enough. Piracy has even made things difficult as artists are failing to make money from sales. This is why many of the artists are holding shows frequently without rest.<\/p>\n<p>This is all because they would want to make ends meet,\u201d said the artist.<\/p>\n<p>He said things are even difficult for them as they have to spend more money in hiring equipment to hold shows and then also spend more inbooking for venues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am happy that finally we have equipment and this will ease the budget especially on hiring equipment,\u201d said Momba.<\/p>\n<p>He said as a band they are also looking forward to working with different companies and called upon companies in the country toutilise them in spreading different.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lilongwe-based reggae musician Haxi Momba has resurrected his band known at The Jews which took a long break due to lack of equipment.
