Flames Coach Ronny van Geneugden and his 20-member squad finally left for this year\u2019s Cosafa Cup tournament yesterday through Chileka Airport in Blantyre with the usual promise of bringing home the cup.<\/p>\n
After forcing a narrow 1-0 win over Comoros in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match, van Geneugden will be hoping to convince his employers, Football Association of Malawi, that he is the man for the job.<\/p>\n
The Belgian will have to find a winning formula in a team that has never won the competition before, with the closest being two silver medal finishes and a plate division win.<\/p>\n
Seven new players were called to join the squad early in the week after South African and Mozambican clubs withdrew their players from the squad.<\/p>\n
Van Geneugden said he has great players who deserve the opportunity to play at the top.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Multichoice Malawi has announced that soccer lovers will have the chance to watch the team\u2019s games live on Supersport.<\/p>\n
The company\u2019s Marketing Manager, Chimwemwe Nyirenda, said it was important for Malawians to give moral support to the team by following the action through their television sets.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Flames are in South Africa for a national cause and they deserve our support. As a company, we have committed ourselves to ensuring that Malawians do not miss any minute of the action,\u201d Nyirenda said.<\/p>\n
The Flames start the tournament with a fixture against Tanzania on Sunday 25th June, before meeting Mauritius on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
