{"id":48888,"date":"2017-06-21T10:34:04","date_gmt":"2017-06-21T08:34:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=48888"},"modified":"2017-06-21T10:34:05","modified_gmt":"2017-06-21T08:34:05","slug":"thom-kanyuka-dies-burial-thursday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/06\/21\/thom-kanyuka-dies-burial-thursday\/","title":{"rendered":"Thom Kanyuka dies, burial Thursday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Renowned civil servant and business executive Thomas Oswald Kanyuka has died.<\/p>\n<p>Kanyuka died in the early hours of Tuesday at Blantyre Adventist Hospital after a long battle with cancer.<\/p>\n<p>His brother, Chris, described the late Kanyuka as a pillar to his family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKanyuka was a Malawian to remember who leaves behind a legacy of honest and dedicated service both to his family and the country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said vigil of the late Kanyuka is being held at his residence at BCA Hill and burial is expected to take place tomorrow at Misesa Cemetery. A funeral service will take place at his house from 9am and, thereafter, a mass celebration at St. Paul\u2019s Anglican Church from noon.<\/p>\n<p>After graduating with A Levels from Dedza Secondary School in 1963, Kanyuka joined the civil service in the Ministry of Finance and later joined the Malawi Development Corporation as projects manager until his retirement in the late 70s, after rising to the position of general manager.<\/p>\n<p>Kanyuka also served in various boards including Air Malawi, Malawi Hotels, Britam, Lafarge, Broll, the Anglican Council and St. Johns Ambulance.<\/p>\n<p>Kanyuka, 73, is survived by a wife, children and grandchildren.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Renowned civil servant and business executive Thomas Oswald Kanyuka has died.
