Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Tuesday sealed a three-year agreement with Royal Moroccan Football Federation (RMFF) worth $5 million (K3.5 billion) for the construction of Lilongwe Technical Centre adjacent to Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n
The deal was struck last month in Morocco after a delegation, led by Fam President Walter Nyamilandu and Director of Sports Jameson Ndalama, visited the North African nation.<\/p>\n
But yesterday, a delegation from Morocco, led by RMFF General Coordinator Mouad Hajji, was in the country to finalise the deal.<\/p>\n
The project, to be completed in nine months, will consist of a 50-bed hostel, an artificial turf, a medical centre and a kitchen.<\/p>\n
RMFF will then install an artificial turf at Luwinga Fifa Goal Project 4 in Mzuzu as phase two of the project.<\/p>\n
Phase three will involve the installation of a natural grass turf at MDC Stadium in Blantyre.<\/p>\n
Speaking in Lilongwe after inspecting the construction site, Fam Vice President, James Mwenda, hailed the partnership, saying it would foster the development of the local game.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a historic moment for Malawi and we are grateful to our counterparts for the partnership. This partnership will go a long way in developing our football,\u201d Mwenda, who was accompanied by Fam General Secretary, Alfred Gunda, said.<\/p>\n
On his part, Hajji said his federation aims at building the capacity of fellow African federations to develop the game.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a very important partnership and we believe this is a win-win situation. We are ready to support Fam in setting up a solid foundation for football development,\u201d Hajji said.<\/p>\n
