M- Theatres is known for screening movies at Chichiri Shopping Mall in Blantyre but the centre wants to do more as far as uplifting arts in the country is concerned.<\/p>\n
It is in this vein that M-Theatres has embarked on a stand-up comedy project that will see them hosting a main event on July 1.<\/p>\n
Before the main event, M-Theatres is running stand-up comedy auditions that started last Saturday and will finish on June 24.<\/p>\n
M-Theatres proprietor Sunduzwayo Jere said yesterday that the stand-up comedy auditions last Saturday attracted 11 contestants.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had 11 contestants but only four performed while the others chickened out. But with that said, we are happy with the response from people. We are continuing with the auditions on June 24 and those who feel are talent in stand-up comedy they can come because it\u2019s all free,\u201d Jere said.<\/p>\n
The four who performed are Tadja Nkhonjera, Monica Maia, Arthur Chipembere and Lurein Perreira, who was the only one selected.<\/p>\n
\u201cLurein Perreira made it through and will perform during the main event on July 1; he was very good and impressed the judges. The others were told to go back and rework on their comics and are free to audition again on June 24,\u201d Jere said.<\/p>\n
He also said that patrons are free to be part of the audience.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe just want to call upon stand-up comedians to come out and audition. June 24 is the last chance before the main event on July 1 which is the World Comedy Day,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Jere also said that M-Theatres has a lot to offer and that people should watch the space.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have more projects we are working on but for now let me concentrate on stand-up comedy. Our aim is to help promote arts and culture in the country although movies are our main area,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The country is yet to rise as far as stand-up comedy is concerned but others have done well among them Daliso Chaponda, who came third in Britain\u2019s Got Talent 2017.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
