Suspended Blantyre United Coach, Leo Mpulula, could be on the verge of being shown the exit door as former Flames mentor, Ernest Mtawali, has reportedly been lined up for the job.<\/p>\n
United suspended Mpulula for three weeks last month after Football Association of Malawi (Fam) had warned him over his outbursts.<\/p>\n
Prior to United\u2019s Super League clash against Master Security Services FC on May 20, Mpulula is alleged to have labelled referees as \u201ccorrupt and incompetent\u201d.<\/p>\n
In his absence, his deputy Safarao Pompi has been in charge of the team that lies third from bottom. United are struggling having just won once in five games.<\/p>\n
According to the team\u2019s General Secretary, Anthony Kafuwa, the team will decide on Mpulula\u2019s future soon.<\/p>\n
However, Mtawali has reportedly been at the club\u2019s training of late, fuelling speculations that he would take over.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, he has been visiting our training ground recently\u2026 not daily of course. Ernest is a football coach and he loves Blantyre United. But it does not mean that he is our coach.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe issue about Leo is still going on. He remains our coach. He is just suspended and we are going to state our stand concerning his future later this week,\u201d Kafuwa said.<\/p>\n
In a separate interview, Mtawali could neither confirm nor deny his links with the club.<\/p>\n
He, however, said that he is not interested in taking up any coaching job in Malawi anytime soon.<\/p>\n
\u201cI will announce the next team I am going to coach later,\u201d said Mtawali in a short response.<\/p>\n
Mtawali was dismissed as Malawi National Football Team coach last June following the Flames\u2019 first round exit at the Council for Southern Africa Football Associations Castle Cup in Namibia.<\/p>\n
