Sunbird Tourism Limited has disclosed that it has spent K20 million in training student teachers to become fully skilled and competent educators in the last three years.<\/p>\n
According to Sunbird Group Sales and Marketing Manager, Levie Nkunika, Sunbird Tourism aims to remain a relevant brand as it continues to make a lasting positive difference in society.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe believe good ethics make good business. Teachers have a huge influence on communities, hence our choice to promote teacher education,\u201d Nkunika said.<\/p>\n
He said the giant hotel chain partnered the Development Aid from People to People (Dapp) where Sunbird Tourism has been sponsoring students to train in Dapp\u2019s teacher training programme that aims to support the Ministry of Education to improve quality of education in rural primary schools through the training of primary school teachers that will be based in the rural areas.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe agreement stems out of the two organisations\u2019 shared commitment to improve quality in rural education while also contributing to the \u00a0achievements of the Malawi Government development goals,\u201d Nkunika said.<\/p>\n
One of the graduates, Mwai Ngwira, said the training has equipped her with skills to make a difference in the community.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Nkunika has disclosed that Sunbird has also been contributing in government\u2019s efforts to provide quality treatment to patients with chronic diseases.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince January 2017, Sunbird Tourism has been providing lunch to 60 cancer patients every Wednesday at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre. These patients are provided with food soon after their chemotherapy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
