Renowned politician-cum-businessman, Sidik Mia, has called on the youth in the country to be innovative and venture into entrepreneurship as one way of sustaining themselves and developing the nation.<\/p>\n
Mia made the remarks in Blantyre when he hosted Muslim university students from across the country to Iftar (breaking the Ramadan fast) which the Muslims are currently observing.<\/p>\n
He further called on them to embrace their culture and religion, arguing this brings unity among them in many ways.<\/p>\n
\u201cI called on them to be vigilant in the way they carry out themselves. I called on them to be proud of their religion. This helps them to come together during different activities but this also helps them to be each other\u2019s keeper,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Speaking on behalf of the students, Chairperson for Muslim Students Association from the University of Malawi\u2019s The Polytechnic, Josophat Amidu, said he was delighted to be part of the group, saying this has helped them to develop a network.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have had a great time and we do not take it for granted. It is a holy month for us and we are grateful for the opportunity to have been brought together to learn from each other and encourage each other in our various studies. This gathering will help us to value our religion,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Mia also invited women for Iftar to his residence on Monday.<\/p>\n
The majority of the women called for a leader to help them with issues of education, heath as well as development for the Muslim society.<\/p>\n
Mia bemoaned lack of Muslim-friendly social structures in the country and promised that he will provide these facilities within two years of holding a leadership position.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have many issues of infrastructure and facilities, part of it being hospitals, schools and universities. There are cultural wrongs that Muslims are faced with in hospitals, our women are treated by a male doctor which is not right with our culture,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
