{"id":48411,"date":"2017-06-14T09:42:30","date_gmt":"2017-06-14T07:42:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=48411"},"modified":"2017-06-14T09:42:33","modified_gmt":"2017-06-14T07:42:33","slug":"weightlifter-association-of-malawi-selects-4-weightlifters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/06\/14\/weightlifter-association-of-malawi-selects-4-weightlifters\/","title":{"rendered":"Weightlifter Association of Malawi selects 4 weightlifters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Weightlifter Association of Malawi (WBAM) has selected four weightlifters for camp training in readiness for the Africa Weightlifting Championship set for Mauritius.<\/p>\n<p>The continental championship will also serve as a 2018 Commonwealth Games qualifier.<\/p>\n<p>Brito Mota, John Phiri, Peter Kalitsiro and Stella Kamanga have been earmarked for the African Championship after impressing during the National Weightlifting Championship held last week at Blantyre Youth Centre.<\/p>\n<p>Mota emerged champion in 59kilogrammes category whereas Charles Chauyauya finished on second place. Allan Mphote finished on third place in the same category.<\/p>\n<p>Phiri, competing in 62 kilogrammes section, emerged the winner whereas Griffin Manda ended on second position. Harry Kalipinde was on third place.<\/p>\n<p>In 69 kilogrammes category, Kalitsiro finished at the top whereas Thoko Bwanali occupied the second slot.<\/p>\n<p>WBAM Vice-President, Kelvin Saeluzika, said the four have shown potential that they match qualifying times. \u00a0\u201cWe felt that we should not give up without giving it a fight. Therefore, we have decided to select these four to undergo special camp before they travel to Mauritius. It is our hope that they can improve their records and qualify for the Commonwealth Games,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The championship attracted over 20 weightlifters drawn from several zones in the country.
