{"id":48096,"date":"2017-06-09T08:54:20","date_gmt":"2017-06-09T06:54:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=48096"},"modified":"2017-06-09T08:54:24","modified_gmt":"2017-06-09T06:54:24","slug":"polytechnic-alumni-bail-out-85-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/06\/09\/polytechnic-alumni-bail-out-85-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Polytechnic alumni bail out 85 students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Alumni of The Polytechnic, a constituent college of the University of Malawi, have bailed out 85 needy students of the school through a K19 million donation.<\/p>\n<p>The money, which is in loan form, will cater for the students\u2019 fees for one semester.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking during a cheque presentation to the school, Unima Vice Chancellor John Kalenga- Saka told the recipients to work hard in their studies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a rare opportunity and you need to work hard so that the donors get encouraged to do more for you,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Saka also urged all alumni of the University of Malawi to follow the steps of The Polytechnic alumni in assisting needy students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a cause for all of us who have stepped on the corridors of the University of Malawi. We need to do something to uplift education standards in our colleges. Let us join hands and bring back quality education to our schools,\u201d Saka said.<\/p>\n<p>The Alumni Association Trustee Thomson Mpinganjira said the aim of the association is to ensure that no student drops out of college due to lack of funds.<\/p>\n<p>He said the association has established a revolving fund, so that needy students can access loans to settle tuition fees and upkeep.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Alumni of The Polytechnic, a constituent college of the University of Malawi, have bailed out 85 needy students of the school through a K19 million donation.
