Minister of Labour, Youth, Sports and Manpower Development, Henry Mussa, has appealed to Malawi National Football Team players to work towards regaining the team\u2019s lost glory.<\/p>\n
Mussa made the remarks when he made a surprise visit to the Flames training at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe. The Flames play their first 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match on Saturday against Comoros Islands at the Chinese-built facility. \u201cOnce upon a time, teams like Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique used to dread meeting the Flames but nowadays, we are a laughing stock. We need to reclaim our lost glory,\u201d Mussa said.<\/p>\n
Mussa said he was impressed with the players\u2019 commitment after watching the training session.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt feels great to see the players looking motivated with my surprise visit. I urge the players to rise above pettiness and proudly fly the Malawi flag,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Flames Head Coach, Ronny Van Geneugden, is expected to have the majority of his foreign-based players this Saturday minus Robert Ng\u2019ambi whose wife was involved in a car accident in South Africa.<\/p>\n
Gabadihno Mhango, Richard Mbulu, Charles Swini, Gerald Phiri Jnr, John Banda, Frank Banda and captain Limbikani Mzava are already in camp for the game.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Geneugden has maintained Mzava as the team\u2019s captain.<\/p>\n
The Belgian is still searching for his first victory as the Flames have gone three consecutive games without a win.<\/p>\n
