It was all sky blue in Lilongwe Wednesday as Airtel Top 8 Cup champions, Silver Strikers, paraded the trophy in the streets of Lilongwe as part of activities to celebrate their triumph.<\/p>\n
Several onlookers and Silver fans lined up in the streets of Lilongwe to welcome the champions.<\/p>\n
For the players, it was a memorable moment aboard an open AXA Bus Shuttle for the first time in their football careers.<\/p>\n
The trophy parade started at Silver Stadium via City Centre, Kawale, Chisapo, Chilinde, Areas 24, 36, Old Town but the climax was at the team\u2019s clubhouse in Area 47.<\/p>\n
Silver Chairperson, Ralph Tseka, and other high-profile officials joined the parade.<\/p>\n
Silver General Secretary, Thabo Chakaka-Nyirenda, said the Central Bankers were aiming for clean sweep of trophies this season.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are more than satisfied with the turn-up of our fans for this parade. This is the beginning of good things and we hope we will win more trophies this season,\u201d Chakaka- Nyirenda said.<\/p>\n
The Central Bankers ended a two-year cup drought when they beat Be Forward Wanderers 10-9 on post-match penalties at Bingu National Stadium last Saturday.<\/p>\n
For winning the competition, Silver pocketed K15 million whereas Wanderers got K5 million.<\/p>\n
