Veteran coach, instructor and teacher, Eddingtone Ng\u2019onamo, is ill in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n
The former Malawi National Football Team coach and technical director, his voice faint and breaking, confirmed that he was down with diabetes.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have been ill for a long time. I have been going for checkups. I can, relatively, say I am getting better,\u201d said the man who, a few months ago, was appointed Blantyre United Technical Director.<\/p>\n
He, last season, worked as coach for Be Forward Wanderers and was part of the Carlsberg Cup winning party.<\/p>\n
The former multiple trophy-winning Nyasa Big Bullets coach said Football Association of Malawi was aware of his illness.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut I am not asking for any help,\u201d said Ng\u2019onamo, who is being taken care of by his children.<\/p>\n
Apart from coaching, Ng\u2019onamo has over the years also been working as a sports teacher at a Blantyre high school.<\/p>\n
In the 1980s, he was also a teacher at Mwanza Secondary School.<\/p>\n
However, it was in the late stages of his coaching career that he earned prominence, especially after serving as the right-hand man to the then Flames Danish coach, Kim Splidsboel.<\/p>\n
The Dane has, since the end of his Flames tenure in 2002, been inviting Ng\u2019onamo to Denmark to conduct coaching clinics with youth teams.<\/p>\n
Little wonder, Splidsboel, contacted The Daily Times <\/em>to find out about the health of Ng\u2019onamo.<\/p>\n \u201cI talked to Eddie the other day and he told me by phone that he was recovering from stroke. You know that I often invite him to Denmark. I wish him all the best. He is like my brother,\u201d Splidsboel said.<\/p>\n In response, Ng\u2019onamo promised to visit Denmark in August.<\/p>\n The Daily Times <\/em>could not independently establish if Ng\u2019onamo is also down with stroke or just diabetes as he stated.<\/p>\n United Technical Director, Lawson Nakoma, was unable to comment yesterday as he was locked up in a meeting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Veteran coach, instructor and teacher, Eddingtone Ng\u2019onamo, is ill in Lilongwe.
