Afripads Malawi, an international business firm, has donated 2,000 female pads worth K8 million to 13 schools in Balaka.<\/p>\n
In an interview after making the donation at Phalula Community Day Secondary School (CDSS), Afripads Malawi Assistant Director Abdulrasheed Katemangu said the organisation is committed to reducing cases of absenteeism among female learners in the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe donation is one of our goals and is aimed at maintaining class attendance among female students who face problems when they are menstruating, including missing classes, which does not augur well with their future aspirations,\u201d Katemangu said.<\/p>\n
Katemangu added that their product is different from others as one pack can be used for a period of 12 months.<\/p>\n
He also said their organisation is looking for other non-governmental organisations to partner with in distributing the product.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are appealing to other organisations to buy the product from us and help us in provision of it to many areas of the country,\u201d said Katemangu.<\/p>\n
In her remarks, representative of Mother Group at Phalula CDSS Madalitso Tamaona hailed the firm for the donation, arguing the initiative would help to reduce absenteeism in class mainly among the girl child.<\/p>\n
\u201cEarlier on, many female students used to quit school because they were menstruating. Our hope is that the situation will improve,\u201d Tamaona said.<\/p>\n
One of the Form Four students who received the pads said menstruation has been contributing to her poor performance in class.<\/p>\n
Since Afripads Malawi was registered in March this year, it has distributed the product to Chichiri, and Zomba Prisons, Zomba Mental Hospital and Likhubula Youth Organisation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
