Blue Eagles continued with their impressive form when they lifted the first-ever all-women national volleyball championship at College of Medicine in Blantyre on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Eagles humbled Kamuzu Barracks 3-0 during the two-day tournament which was full of thrills.<\/p>\n
For emerging winners, Eagles received K200,000.<\/p>\n
The team\u2019s vice captain, Emily Hara, said teamwork was the key.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a difficult tournament but we worked hard as a team. We have a reputation to protect and we did just that,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Kamuzu Barracks captain, Jane Nyirenda, said her team put up a spirited performance and were unfortunate to lose.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have just been assembled. We are equally a good side and we have drawn some positives from the match. We will continue working hard to remain strong at the top,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Southern Region Volleyball League Chairperson, Pacharo Ngwira, said the tournament was fruitful.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe supported the women to stage the first-ever all ladies national tournament. Well-wishers contributed K1 million towards the event. We hope this is just the beginning and that next year they will organise another tournament,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The event attracted nine teams after Moyale withdrew.<\/p>\n
In a third-place battle, Katoto Trickers Queens defeated Snipers 3-1.<\/p>\n
Runners-up Kamuzu Barracks got K150,000 with Katoto cashing K100,000.<\/p>\n
