{"id":47618,"date":"2017-06-02T09:18:30","date_gmt":"2017-06-02T07:18:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=47618"},"modified":"2017-06-02T09:18:31","modified_gmt":"2017-06-02T07:18:31","slug":"no-prize-money-for-champions-without-standards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/06\/02\/no-prize-money-for-champions-without-standards\/","title":{"rendered":"No prize money for champions without standards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Weightlifters who will not meet the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) qualifying standards won\u2019t receive cash prizes, Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Association of Malawi (WBAM) General Secretary, Harold Mwayang\u2019ana, has confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>He said this ahead of a national championship which WBAM will host at Blantyre Youth Centre tomorrow to select weightlifters for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGone are the days when we were aiming for mere participation. Now, we want results. We notified all athletes to improve on their time. To motivate them, we will reward athletes that will meet the IWF standards, with monetary prizes and medals. However, for those that will emerge champions but won\u2019t meet the qualification standards, we will give them medals only,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mwayang\u2019ana said women competing in 53 kilogrammes Division must lift at least 103 kilogrammes in Snatch category and 134 kilogrammes in Clean and Jerk.<\/p>\n<p>Men competing in 56 kilogrammes Division are required to lift at least 139 kilogrammes in Snatch and 171 kilogrammes in Clean and Jerk. Men competing in 69 kilogrammes Division must lift 166 kilogrammes Snatch and 183 kilogrammes in Clean and Jerk<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll athletes must be working to reach those results.
