National Salvation Front (Nasaf) acting president Loudon Malingamoyo has said politics in the country should move away from being a profession of retirees.<\/p>\n
In an interview on the sidelines of a press briefing the party held in Lilongwe recently, Malingamoyo said being critical decision makers for countries, politicians should be people with new ideas as opposed to those who are past their most productive age.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you watch television, such people sleep in Parliament. We want to chase those that are sleeping in Parliament because that is not really working for the country. People who get there [Parliament] must be active.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe problem we have in Malawi is that many people take politics as a place where they are going to retire. You find that people work here and there and after retiring, they say \u2018let\u2019s go into politics\u2019. No. Politics should not be for such people; we need people with energy,\u201d Malingamoyo said.<\/p>\n
He also hit at government for implementing hand-to-mouth policies instead of promoting higher education.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is hopelessness in our country. Let\u2019s talk about the University of Malawi, Chancellor College. This was supposed to be mitochondria for the nation. But instead of using it as a power house for development, it is closed. [Students at] The Polytechnic; they are still working on 2014 academic year which is not healthy for the country\u2019s future,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Malingamoyo said the party, which has no Member of Parliament, is in the process of recruiting members and is optimistic of winning parliamentary seats in the 2019 elections.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
