Malawi Queens\u2019 participation at the forthcoming Africa Netball Championship hangs in balance because of lack of funds.<\/p>\n
Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) needs about K30 million to take part in the week-long championship that will draw about 10 countries from the Southern Africa.<\/p>\n
Queens arrived home on Sunday from South Africa having finished as runners-up to the hosts during the just ended Diamond Netball Challenge.<\/p>\n
The Malawi national netball team was expected to go straight into camp last weekend, but the team did not go raising fears over the team\u2019s participation at the event.<\/p>\n
The Africa Netball Championship is set to throw-off on Sunday in Botswana who came to the rescue of the organisers after Namibia withdrew its hosting right due to lack of funds.<\/p>\n
Nam president, Rose Chinunda, could neither confirm nor deny whether Queens would participate at the event.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are keeping our fingers crossed. Earlier on we asked the competition\u2019s organisers to change the dates because we had made tentative plans to travel to Namibia. But the shifting of the competition from Namibia to Botswana has caught us off balance.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe need to make new arrangements to book our tickets to Botswana and it would be difficult to make such changes,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Chinuda said Nam would know Queens\u2019 fate by today after meeting some stakeholders including the government.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf we find the resources, we might as well go to Botswana without camping,\u201d she hinted.<\/p>\n
If Malawi fails to take part in the competition, the national netball team would compromise its chances of maintaining the top rank in Africa and the world.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
