{"id":47021,"date":"2017-05-25T08:59:41","date_gmt":"2017-05-25T06:59:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=47021"},"modified":"2017-05-25T08:59:41","modified_gmt":"2017-05-25T06:59:41","slug":"soldier-finds-new-venue-in-mangochi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2017\/05\/25\/soldier-finds-new-venue-in-mangochi\/","title":{"rendered":"Soldier finds new venue in Mangochi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After being starved of proper venues for performances for a long time, Lucius Banda and Zembani Banda last Friday opened a new place in Mangochi.<\/p>\n<p>The musician, better known as Soldier, described the opening of the venue as a relief to him and other artists in Mangochi, particularly at Makawa Trading Centre.<\/p>\n<p>Known as Club 700, the venue is expected to provide an option for artists in the area as far as live performances are concerned.<\/p>\n<p>Sunbird Nkopola and Zitherepano are the top venues that have been providing a platform for artists.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking in an interview after performing at the venue, Lucius said the place takes the district back to the time of Chinyangala when it used to host a lot of live acts.<\/p>\n<p>Lucius famed for songs such as \u2018Mabala,\u2019 and \u2018Paulendo\u2019 said Club 700 has a good environment and that the facility is fit enough to host performances.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I was told about this place, I had a lot of doubts. But after seeing it, I said to myself that Malawians are now serious about promoting arts through live performances,\u201d said the musician.<\/p>\n<p>Before Lucius took to the stage, the audience sampled, performances from other Zembani siblings among them Sam Simakweli, who is also the group\u2019s bandleader.<\/p>\n<p>Going by the name Sam Smak, Simakweli also said he was impressed with the venue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a good venue. Temperatures are always high in Mangochi but this open space provides a good environment for both artists and fans,\u201d said the singer and keyboardist.<\/p>\n<p>During his set, Simakweli took patrons down memory lane when he dished out songs originally done by late Paul Chaphuka.<\/p>\n<p>After performing a few of Chaphuka\u2019s songs, Simakweli turned to his own songs.<\/p>\n<p>Some of his songs he offered include \u2018Bubile\u2019, \u2018Sofiya\u2019 and \u2018Ndimasilira\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Nepman also performed during the gig and warmed up the stage for Lucius.<\/p>\n<p>Being a new venue, Lucius did not disappoint. He arrived at the venue earlier than usual and he performed for close to two hours until the early hours of Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a nice performance I have watched by Zembani for a long time.
