The Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) has told senior public officers to come up with a number of initiatives in their ministries, departments and agencies whose results can be seen within 100 days.<\/p>\n
Chief Director in the OPC responsible for Performance Enforcement Department, Dickson Chunga, says senior public officers need to develop a culture of getting quick results from initiatives they are implementing.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a structured programme which mobilises teams to identify and implement service delivery initiatives, within a short space of time, of not more than 100 days. By engaging the policy makers, we are expecting to support those initiatives within their ministries, departments and agencies,\u201d Chunga said.<\/p>\n
He was speaking in Lilongwe yesterday during the opening of a five-day Rapid Results Approach Training and Implementation workshop.<\/p>\n
In attendance are principal secretaries, heads of ministries, departments and agencies, including parastatals.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese are the leaders, the decision makers. What we want is that when they go back to their institutions, they should take leadership of the process of improving service delivery in their institutions,\u201d Chunga said.<\/p>\n
He said the OPC will be regularly in touch with the institutions being represented in the workshop to establish initiatives they will come up with and even providing support to them so that they stick to the time frames.<\/p>\n
The workshop has drawn resource persons from across Africa such as Sylvester O\u2019Bongo from Kenya and Solomon Mhlanga from Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n
O\u2019Bongo highlighted a number of examples rapid results approaches have registered in Kenya, like decongestion of prisons and the improvement in the speed of processing passport applications.<\/p>\n
African Development Bank (AfDB), Resident Representative to Malawi, Andrew Mwaba, said the workshop has come at a right time.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is very important in the context of the ongoing public service reforms, here in Malawi. It will be very beneficial to those who are attending.
