Ugly scenes refuse to die in local football as some Blue Eagles and Kamuzu Barracks (KB) officials were involved in a brawl at half-time of the Airtel Top 8 Cup quarter-final match at Nankhaka Stadium, Lilongwe on Saturday.<\/p>\n
In the tunnel leading to the dressing rooms, KB Kit Master, Simeon Nedivala, and Eagles Goalkeepers\u2019 Trainer, Chimwemwe Chitedze, were involved in a scuffle, but the police and stewards intervened.<\/p>\n
Following the incident, Eagles were delayed for five minutes on the pitch after the first-half as the police and stewards tried to calm the situation.<\/p>\n
The situation remained tense until the end of the game.<\/p>\n
Eagles Chairperson, Alexander Ngwala, Sunday said he was aware of the incident but asked for more time to gather information before commenting on it.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was outside the country but I heard about it. Let me consult some members in the team. As Eagles, we believe that football is a game not war and if it happened, then it is not good for football,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
KB General Secretary, Michael Chameyere, who watched the game, described the incident as \u201cbad for football\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cI do not really understand what happened. But we need to avoid such things,\u201d Chamayere said.<\/p>\n
During the second leg, KB beat Eagles 2-0 and 6-2 on aggregate to clinch a semi-final berth.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
