A film about the foiled murder of 13-year-old albino Morton Juma of Karonga District has earned Mzuzu International Academy a regional accolade in southern Africa.<\/p>\n
Mzuzu Academy students summarised Juma\u2019s ordeal in the short film to become the second winners of the British Council competition in Malawi after competing with schools from Zimbabwe, South Africa and Malawi.<\/p>\n
One of the students who were part of the production team, Tingo Kanjadea, said that they wanted to align themselves with \u2018the voiceless.\u2019<\/p>\n
\u201cWe thought of people like Morton who smelled death but managed to escape. We are telling a story about how Morton got into the situation, how he managed to escape and how he ended up at this school,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Kanjadea said the trophy is an encouragement to the school to win other world competitions.<\/p>\n
According to British Council, Mzuzu Academy entered their production under the sub-Saharan Africa region, one of the two regions in Africa.<\/p>\n
A total of 1,650 schools took part in the competition from around the globe but the academy\u2019s film did not make it to the world stage.<\/p>\n
\u201cThough we could not win at the world stage, we are sure next year we will produce something better and win,\u201d Caro Chikankheni Mhone, British Council Country Examinations Manager, said.<\/p>\n
Juma\u2019s case at the Mzuzu High Court saw Judge Dingiswayo Madise in June 2016 slapping Samson Kaumba, 33, with a life sentence without the possibility of pardon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
