A total of K20.9 million has been realised as gate collections from 13 matches in the opening two weeks of the 2017 TNM Super League.<\/p>\n
But the figure pales in comparison to last year\u2019s K40.7 million realised from 15 matches at the same stage of the league. Super League of Malawi (Sulom) Treasurer, Tiya Somba Banda, attributed the decline to the exemption from matches of eight teams in the second week.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had nine games in the first week of the league and collected K17.4 million. But in the second week, there were only four games that generated K3.5 million. So this should explain the reduced amount of the gate collections,\u201d Banda said.<\/p>\n
He also cited the closure of Blantyre\u2019s Kamuzu Stadium as another contributing factor to the low gate collections.<\/p>\n
Banda said last season, the match between Nyasa Big Bullets and Moyale Barracks generated K10.9 million at the giant stadium, but only grossed K2.85 million two weeks ago at Mzuzu Stadium.<\/p>\n
The league\u2019s launch match between defending champions Kamuzu Barracks and Be Forward Wanderers at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe generated the new season\u2019s highest amount of K8.3 million followed by the Chitipa United\/Bullets encounter which fetched K2.8 million in Mzuzu.<\/p>\n
The Moyale\/Bullets encounter in Mzuzu comes third at K2.9 million with Mulanje Park Stadium registering K1.5 million from the match involving Premier Bet Wizards and Silver Strikers.<\/p>\n
Blue Eagles and Mzuni\u2019s match realised the least gate collections at K190,600 at Nankhaka followed by K288,790 during the Mafco\/Civil Sporting Club at Civo Stadium.<\/p>\n
Kamuzu Barracks and Wanderers earned the highest cuts from gate collections at K3 million each whereas Bullets are second at K2.3 million.<\/p>\n
Eagles have collected the least cut from gate collections at K63,380 followed by Mafco\u2019s K72,786.<\/p>\n
