Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Marketing and Commercial Director, Limbani Matola, has described last week\u2019s pilot phase of the electronic ticketing system as successful.<\/p>\n
During the inaugural Airtel Top 8 Cup games in Lilongwe, Fam carried out the pilot phase of the e-ticketing system.<\/p>\n
With the new system, fans were able to buy tickets through Airtel Money and Matola said the response was encouraging.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the game between Silver Strikers and Nyasa Big Bullets, K850,000 was traded through e-ticketing while in the game between Kamuzu Barracks and Blue Eagles, the system raised about K70,000. Being the first time, those were significant amounts and we are hoping that going forward, the uptake will increase,\u201d Matola explained.<\/p>\n
The game between Bullets and Silver raised K14 million in gate collections. Matola said they encountered minor challenges mainly on fans\u2019 lack of awareness on how to redeem the tickets.<\/p>\n
He urged fans to embrace the new system as it is convenient for them.<\/p>\n
\u201cFans can buy tickets from the comfort of their homes, and this system is secure and smart. It significantly reduces fraud at football matches because people do not have access to cash,\u201d Matola explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis week, we promise to work on some of the challenges we faced last week. We want this to be a national thing. We would like to open up to other mobile service providers because currently, we are piloting it with Airtel [Malawi Limited] through Airtel Money. We want everyone who has a cellphone to be able to buy a ticket through the phone.\u201d<\/p>\n
Despite other countries in Southern Africa adopting the system, lack of proper infrastructure in stadiums makes it difficult for Malawi to embrace e-ticketing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
