United Democratic Front (UDF) Secretary General, Kandi Padambo, and Publicity Secretary, Ken Ndanga, risk being taken to prison for failing to recognise Iqbal Omar and two others as members of the party.<\/p>\n
Omar was fired from the party in December 2015, but recently obtained an order at the High Court in Lilongwe stopping the party from implementing the decision.<\/p>\n
According to lawyer, Henry Kadzakumanja, they are planning to file charges of contempt of court due to failure by some of the UDF officials to recognise the February 23, 2017 court order.<\/p>\n
Omar was fired alongside Zaituna Yusuf and Dinociuos Magombo.<\/p>\n
In an interview on Tuesday, Kadzakumanja said he is planning to talk with Omar if there is a possibility of filing committal proceedings.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to commit some of them to prison for contempt of court because their conduct is in contempt of court. The Secretary General of the party and Ken Ndanga have been saying they still don\u2019t recognise the three,\u201d said Kadzakumanja.<\/p>\n
Omar resumed his duties as the party\u2019s first vice president, after obtaining the order.<\/p>\n
UDF has been saying it does not recognise Omar as a member of the party, labelling him as a confusionist.<\/p>\n
Ndanga refused to comment on the matter, saying he had not seen the court documents but was quick to say that Omar was fired from the party and that he is not wanted in the party.<\/p>\n
\u201cOmar behaves like a vagabond politician and until such a time that there is any decision to the contrary, he is not wanted in the party. As a party, we don\u2019t trust him because we have information that he has been to the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and he was rejected, he also went to People Party (PP) where he also rejected so we cannot trust that character,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
However, Kadzakumanja dismissed Ndanga\u2019s claim that he did not serve UDF the courts order, arguing UDF\u2019s lawyer Julius Nyambo was part of the proceedings.<\/p>\n
\u201cTheir lawyer was attending the proceedings and apart from that, we also served him all the documents that we obtained from court. So, it was the duty of their lawyer to bring all those documents to their attention,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
